Great game, terrible controls: the mobile curse
I've stopped playing more good mobile games over bad controls than bad design. It's a real shame, because a settings menu usually could have fixed it in one screen.
Take Neon Drift Circuit. The default tilt steering felt vague and made me want to quit within two races. Then I found the button option, switched, and suddenly the game was fun. Same content, completely different feeling.
The lesson for developers is old but ignored: give players control options. Buttons and tilt. Adjustable sizes. Left-hand layouts. Every one of these matters on a device we hold a hundred different ways.
My advice as a player: before you write off a game, dig through its options. Half the time the good version of the game is one toggle away.
